Sarawak spicy porridge must have delicacy for Ramadan

KUCHING, July 14 — The Sarawak 'spicy porridge' is the equivalent of the 'bubur lambuk' in Peninsula as a must have delicacy during the breaking of fast during Ramadan.

The dish is made from a mixture of ingredients such as dried bean curd, dried mushroom, black fungus, 'midin' vegetable, young corn, turmeric and 'kundu' leaves, chicken, beef, shrimp, coconut milk and chili, and is often distributed as alms at mosques around Kuching.

The Medan Niaga Satok Ramadan bazaar in Kubah Ria here offered a variety of food but the spicy porridge priced between RM2 and RM3 per packet was still the definite favourite.

Stall owner Siti Maz Adella said her spicy porridge was well received as people wanted to try its unique, rich and delicious taste which came from a special spice that was only found in Sarawak.

Sarawak's traditional 'kuih' such as 'bongkol' 'celorot' and 'kelupis' (RM3), were some of the other popular dishes at the bazaar.
