KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 26 — Volkswagen Group Malaysia Sdn Bhd is expected to introduce its locally-assembled Volkswagen “Jetta” in less than a month from now, says Managing Director Christoph Aringer.

“With the introduction of the local model, the completely-knocked-down “Jetta” would join the Passat and Polo sedan and hatchback. The current completely-built-up 1.4 turbo variant retails for RM151,888.

“The local model will be Volkswagen’s fourth variant to be assembled at

DRB-HICOM’s factory in Pekan, Pahang,” he told Bernama after presenting a Volkswagen Beetle 2.0 to the grand prizewinner of the “Win an iconic Volkswagen Beetle” contest here today.

The contest, held during the 2013 edition of the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show in November last year, was a joint collaboration between Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) and Volkswagen Malaysia.

Earlier, speaking at the prize giving ceremony, Aringer said Volkswagen was delighted to be affiliated with Malaysia’s largest motor show and to partner Maybank.

“The Beetle is the true definition of an icon, one that has impacted people from all walks of life since the 1930s, and yet, is still instantly recognizable all over the globe today,” he said.
