KUCHING, Feb 21 — The flood situation in the Kuching, Serian and Samarahan divisions remained serious with the number of victims at 31 relief centres touching 5,769 people from 1,527 families.

Sarawak Civil Defence Department public relations officer Siti Huzaimah Ibrahim said it was a significant increase compared to 4,381 victims this evening.

“Four more relief centres were opened this evening, making the number of centres currently open at 31 in the three divisions,” she said when contacted tonight.

She said the water levels in rivers in most areas inundated by the floods were normal.

But the weather in the three divisions was downcast all day today and all agencies involved in the flood management committee continued to be in a ready and alert state, she added. — Bernama
