KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 3 — Malaysian director Woo Ming Jin is one of 10 Asian filmmakers selected to participate in Busan International Film Festival’s Power of Asian Cinema series, according to a press release from Greenlight Pictures.
These 10 filmmakers across Asia are invited to make a documentary on their country's cinema.
Woo’s entry, titled ‘Return to Nostalgia’, premieres at the Busan film festival tomorrow, and was broadcasted on Korea’s KBS channel on October 1.
‘Return to Nostalgia’ is the only Malaysian film to be screened in Busan this year.
Woo received support and endorsement from FINAS to shoot the film, which features several local artistes such as Iedil Putra, previously seen in ‘Terbaik dari Langit’ and ‘Another Country’ and Jasmine Chin.
“It is my desire to showcase a part of my country to the world, a part that many of us may have already forgotten,” Woo said.
Woo is no stranger to critically acclaimed film festivals, as he is the first Malaysian director to have his films screened in the Cannes, Berlin and Venice International Film Festivals.
