Thailand beat Malaysia to clinch Istaf Super Series title

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 — Malaysia’s misfortune against arch-rival Thailand continued in the Istaf International Super Series Sepak Takraw Championships final at the Wunna Theikdi Indoor Stadium in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar after going down 1-2, here tonight.

The squad under Najib Iman put up good resistance against their Thai opponents but luck was not on their side as all three sets were closely fought encounters.

Malaysia lost 20-22, 21-18, 21-23 in a match that provided full of action, thrills and spills for the fans.

“This was the best performance from our regu and I am proud of the boys. Lack of fitness and pressure to win saw the boys a number of mistakes that proved costly,” said Najib

Host Myanmar clinched third spot after beating Singapore 21-18, 21-13 in a 3rd/4th playoff.

Thailand meanwhile, made it a double celebration when the girls beat Vietnam 21-18, 21-13 in the women’s final while host Myanmar again took third place after overcoming Indonesia 21-19, 22-24, 21-16 in the 3rd/4th playoff. — Bernama
