KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12 — Eating healthy in Malaysia is such a challenge because we are constantly being surrounded by delicious but unhealthy options. A lot of the things we love to eat are mostly refined carbohydrates which can lead to obesity and other health complications in the long term.
Nobody knows that better than food technologist and food stylist Elaine Ho; she is the woman behind Chopstick Diner (www.chopstickdiner.com), a website that provides simple and delicious Asian and Western recipes for you to try at home.
Since the beginning of August, the mother of two started a salad delivery business to provide healthier lunch options for everyone. She firmly believes in spending time with her children hence the reason she decided to do this business online.
“I’m passionate about food and I wanted to do something different from the other delivery services out there. Chopstick Diner Lunchbox delivers lunches right to you.
“I feel that the Malaysian diet is full of carbohydrates like rice and noodles which is not so healthy,” said Ho. Her salads are made with love and all of the dressings are made from scratch.
For the chicken in the Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad, she marinates the chicken for 24 hours before grilling it. Ho uses fresh ingredients, selecting only quality vegetables for Chopstick Diner Lunchbox.
The delivery service is only available for lunchtime on weekdays but she said that if refrigerated, the salad can be consumed within 24 hours.
Every morning at 6am, Ho gets up to start preparations for the salads. By 10am, the delivery man arrives to pick up the salads for delivery.
For orders below RM50, it costs RM5 for delivery within Klang Valley area. If you spend more than RM50 per order, delivery is free. To ensure that the salads remain fresh, Ho uses a special delivery service where the food is packed in cold storage.
Priced at a reasonable RM15 per lunchbox, Chopstick Diner Lunchbox is available in five flavours such as grilled chicken Caesar Salad, Vietnamese Chicken Salad, Avocado Salad, Thai Beef Salad and Vietnamese fresh spring rolls.
Customers are encouraged to order a day before delivery to ensure that it is made fresh. For special occasions where you want to gift the lunchboxes to your loved ones, Ho also provides special packaging with a ribbon. What better way to show your love than to gift someone with something healthy?
“We also have weekly specials where there will be a new flavour every week,” said Ho. So far, the response for the salads has been good with orders coming in through social media services such as Instagram and Facebook.
The Chopstick Diner website (www.chopstickdiner.com) has also been revamped to accommodate the new online salad delivery service. Ho said that her recipes will still be in the website.
