KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 4 — China’s President Xi Jinping, who is on a three-day maiden state visit to Malaysia from yesterday, was accorded a ceremonial welcome at Parliament Square today.

Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, arrived at the square at 9.05 am and were greeted by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, and the Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tuanku Hajah Haminah.

Also present to welcome them were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, and Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and his wife, Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman.

The national anthems of Malaysia and China were played, and a 21-gun salute was fired.

Xi inspected a guard-of-honour mounted by 106 officers and men of the First Battalion Royal Malay Regiment led by Major Nur Fahmi Bassar.

Malaysian Cabinet ministers and dignitaries were then introduced to Xi.

Xi, who arrived yesterday, is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the Malaysia-China Economic Summit later today.

He will also attend a state banquet hosted by Tuanku Abdul Halim at the Istana Negara tonight. – Bernama
