LOS ANGELES, Sept 24 — Despite her increasing involvement in film projects, the Colombian actress is not leaving TV behind. The “Modern Family” star is even stepping into the role of producer to bring a new comedy series to FOX, Deadline.com reports.
Sofia Vergara is getting behind a sitcom that is likely to have some personal resonance for her as a Latin American immigrant to the US.
“Speak American” will focus on America Aviles, a teacher from a Latin country. To teach her accent-reduction class, she hires a stranger who has some unusual teaching techniques.
As a producer on the new show, Vergara will team up with Andrew Lenchewski, the co-creator of “Royal Pains,” and with producer Ben Silverman, with whom she produced “Killer Women,” a North American adaptation of an Argentine TV series.
In addition to appearing on “Modern Family,” which just won its fourth consecutive Emmy Award on Sept 22, Sofia Vergara will appear in theaters from this October in the Robert Rodriguez film “Machete Kills.”
She also has a role in the forthcoming film John Turturro film “Fading Gigolo,” alongside Woody Allen and Sharon Stone. — AFP-Relaxnews
