KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 — Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek took to the stage and sang his own version of the “Tanah Tumpah Darahku” in conjunction with the 56th Independence Day celebration. His rendition of song surprised the audience outside the Pavilion shopping mall here today.
He was present to witness the “flash mob”, Pentarama and street musicians (buskers) performances.
“I didn't expect that I could sing in front of an audience. But to many people a first-time performance is usually not so good,” he quipped when met by reporters later.
Ahmad Shabery said he composed the song as a mantra to instil patriotism and harmony and the need to appreciate peace, which resulted from the independence struggle.
“Today our security is rest assured due to the role played by the armed
forces and the police ... I dedicate this song to them,” he said.
Ahmad Shabery also danced along with 150 dancers from the Community College, Istana Budaya and an Indian community under the scorching heat.
The flash mob led by Jafly Jaapar presented eight songs ranging from patriotic to modern songs ala the Oppa Gangnam style. — Bernama
