KUALA LUMPUR, May 18 — Council of Eminent Persons member Tun Daim Zainuddin today said he would like for controverisal Malaysian mogul Low Taek Jho to come back to the country to assist him with the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) probe.
The former finance minister said Low, or popularly known as Jho Low, would be the best witness to testify in the 1MDB case that has made global headlines.
“The best witness for that case would be Jho Low. I would like for him to come and assist me.
“If he claims he is innocent, he should come back and help us with the probe,” he told a press conference at Ilham Tower here.
Daim claimed to know the whereabouts of the scandal-plagued businessman who is also known for partying with high-flying socialites and Hollywood darlings.
“We roughly know where he is,” he said, dismissing speculation that Jho Low is in Hong Kong.
Yesterday, the council announced the formation of a separate committee to probe 1MDB, headed by former Attorney-General Tan Sri Abu Talib Othman.
Other members are PwC Risk Assurance Services Partner Nik Shahrizal Sulaiman, Naqiz & Partners Senior Partner Syed Naqiz Shahabuddin Syed Abdul Jabbar, Indonesian Financial Services Authority Senior Advisor Faris Rabidin and Centre to Combat Corruption and Cronyism Founder Cynthia Gabriel.
Meanwhile, Daim said earlier that the council has held 40 meetings since its inception last Saturday with 50 individuals from the government, public sector and government-linked companies.
