JOHOR BARU, April 17 — Johor Barisan Nasional (BN) leader Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin should stop issuing false statements comparing DAP to British colonisers of the past.
Johor DAP publicity secretary Wong Shu Qi said Khaled’s remarks were offensive because they were racist, fomented hate and smacked of fake news.
“I want to remind Mohamed Khaled that Malaysia’s history was created by the struggles of the people of different races against the colonisers for the sake of independence,” she told a news conference at the headquarters of PKR ally in Bandar Baru Uda here today.
National newswire Bernama yesterday reported Mohamed Khaled as saying in Batu Pahat that DAP were employing similar tactics as the colonial British who had pretended to be mere advisers but were the real power behind the throne in pre-independent Malaya.
Wong today added that the caretaker Johor mentri besar’s remark was an insult to the intelligence of Johoreans, especially the Malays, as it suggested they could be easily swayed by what Umno leaders said.
The incumbent Senai assemblyman, who has been announced as the Pakatan Harapan (PH) pact’s candidate for the Kluang parliamentary seat, told Mohamed Khaled that the ethnic Chinese had also fought alongside Malay nationalists like Umno founder Datuk Onn Jaafar to free the country from the yoke of colonial rule.
“Such slander towards DAP mirrors how afraid Mohamed Khaled is of the people’s support towards PH.
“We hope he realises this and stops such slander that can provoke racial sentiments,” said Wong.
