PUTRAJAYA, April 14 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today received a letter of commendation from the al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem for his support and struggle in championing of the cause of Palestinians and liberating Islam’s third holiest mosque from the grip of the Zionist regime.
The Grand Imam of al-Aqsa Mosque Sheikh Dr Ekrima Sa’eed Sabri presented the letter to Najib at the national-level Israk Mikraj (Prophet Muhammad’s ascension to heaven) 1439H celebration at the Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque here today.
Sheikh Dr Ekrima also expressed his appreciation for the support and struggle of Malaysians for the cause.
“The people’s and Malaysian government’s remembrance on the event of Israk Mikraj signifies the love for Palestine and the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The story of Israk Mikraj is written in the Quran and this shows that the mosque has a deep connection with heaven and Muslims.
“However, in remembering the Israk Mikraj event today, let us not forget that Al-Aqsa is still under the grip of the Zionist regime,” he said in his speech at the event.
In a statement, the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (Jakim) said the celebration was the first of such being organised at the national-level.
Meanwhile, Najib, in his speech, said he wanted the celebration to be an annual event at both federal and state levels.
Organising the celebration at national-level proved Malaysia’s commitment in championing the Al-Aqsa Mosque as the third holiest place for the Muslims, he added. — Bernama
