BUKIT KAYU HITAM, April 11 — The Kedah Customs Department seized 70kg of suspected methamphetamine worth about RM3.85 million from a car at the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex near here on Monday.

The drug in 70 transparent plastic packets and worth about RM3.85 million was found hidden in the modified rear boot of the locally-registered Mercedes Benz car.

The 47-year-old car driver was remanded for two weeks beginning yesterday, to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which provides the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.

At a press conference here today, Customs Director-General Datuk Seri Subromaniam Tholasy said the drug was found inside the Mercedes Benz car after it passed through the ICQS vehicle checkpoint at 9.30am.

He said the seizure of the methamphetamine was the biggest in recent times in Kedah. — Bernama
