JOHOR BARU, April 11 — About 1.82 million people have been registered as voters in Johor for the 14th general election (GE14).
Johor Election Commission (EC) director Shafie Taib said the number is based on current figures on the fourth quarter electoral roll for 2017 which also includes 200,000 new voters and 26,865 early voters comprising police and military personnel.
“In this election, female voters are more than male voters by 50.38 per cent,” he told reporters after presenting letters of appointment and writ to the returning officers for the 26 Johor state parliamentary constituencies at Wisma Persekutuan Bandaraya Johor Bahru, here today.
Shafie added that 40 per cent of the voters were those under 40 years old with 296,434 voters being those aged between 21 to 29 years old while 425,256 voters were aged between 30 to 39 years.
Meanwhile, Shafie said they were fully prepared in terms of logistics comprising land, water and air vehicles.
“Helicopters have also been provided by the EC headquarters for use in the Mersing parliamentary constituency, especially for use on two islands, namely Pulau Pemanggil and Pulau Aur and do not miss the interior of Kampung Peta.
“Boats will also be used in several islands around the area,” said Shafie. — Bernama
