KEPALA BATAS, April 11 — Penang Umno is confident the ‘Pak Lah (Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi) DNA’, which remains strong, provides an edge for Barisan Nasional (BN) to retain the Kepala Batas parliamentary seat in the 14th general election (GE14).

Penang Umno Liaison deputy chairman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said the constituency continued to enjoy the development that was brought by the former prime minister development, hence the ‘Pak Lah DNA’ continued to safeguard the wellbeing of the people in Kepala Batas.

“If we look around, everything here has something to do with Tun Abdullah, the various development projects implemented, provides strength for Kepala Batas Umno.

“My responsibility is more of continuing the legacy of Tun Abdullah here. ‘Alhamdulillah’ (praise to God) I managed to get three mosques and five religious schools built in the constituency within the past five years as Kepala Batas MP,” he told reporters today after visiting victims of a thunderstorm here today.

He said it has been the practice of Kepala Batas Umno to do something sincerely by approaching and listening to the people’s problems in the constituency.

“As I have mentioned previously, we are not here to do touch-and-go politics, but to touch the people’s hearts instead, and it is a tradition that we have been practising for a very long time,” he said.

Reezal Merican, who is also the deputy foreign minister, said the ‘Kepala Batas Dihatiku’ as the slogan for the election campaign was a translation of a good relationship between Kepala Batas Umno and the constituents.

“As long as we are closely tied in this relationship, we will not run away from doing what the locals want ... that’s why I’m sure we will still be the best choice to represent the people of Kepala Batas,” he said.

In the last general election, Reezal Merican won a majority of 4,176 votes in a one-on-one contest, defeating PAS candidate Afnan Hamimi Datuk Taib Azamudden. — Bernama
