PETALING JAYA, April 11 — Mohd Khairuddin Othman who quit PAS for PKR last weekend may find himself out in the cold as the latter’s ally, Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah), is adamant on contesting his Paya Jaras state seat.
According to one Amanah source, even PKR grassroots there wanted the Islamist party to contest the seat that was already allocated to it.
The source told ProjekMMO that Amanah’s candidate for Paya Jaras, Mariam Abdul Rashid, has been serving the area to good effect.
The person conceded that Mohd Khairuddin was popular in the area.
“(But) the seat has been allocated to Amanah,” the source said.
Selangor Amanah chairman Izham Hashim was reported as saying his party will not yield the seat.
He added that Mohd Khairuddin’s entry into PKR will, in fact, strain relations among the state’s Pakatan Harapan parties, especially if the latter decides to defend the seat.
In 2013, Mohd Khairuddin defeated Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Muhammad Bushro Mat Johor by 5,522 votes.
Mohd Khairuddin joined PKR on Sunday. Despite rumours of an exodus, PAS vice-president Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad there was none beyond the Paya Jaras rep.
Like Izham, Iskandar also predicted that Mohd Khairuddin will become a hot potato for PH.
