PETALING JAYA, April 11 — Pakatan Harapan (PH) will formally announce its candidates for all parliamentary and state constituencies by April 25, three days before nomination for the 14th general election (GE14).
The pact’s secretariat chief Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah said that the announcements have already started in various states and will continue “in stages” until April 25.
“Rest assured, by April 25, all the candidates will have been announced,” he told Malay Mail when met at Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s (PPBM) headquarters here.
PH began its wave of candidate announcements as early as last month. On March 18, DAP’s Johor chairman and incumbent Kluang MP Liew Chin Tong was announced as PH’s candidate for the Ayer Hitam parliamentary seat.
Since then, further announcements were made in states such as Johor, Pahang as well as the Federal Territories.
According to Saifuddin, many of the candidates will be running in elections for the first time, especially those from PPBM and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah).
“In fact, 70 per cent of Amanah’s Pahang candidates are first-timers,” Saifuddin said.
In Pahang, PH chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced on Monday that Amanah will contest the Temerloh parliamentary seat as well as 11 state constituencies in GE14.
Yesterday, Election Commission chairman Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah announced that nomination day would fall on April 28, advance voting on May 5, and polling day on May 9.
This is the first general election to be held on a Wednesday since 1959.
