LOS ANGELES, April 11 — Jersey Shore may have been off the air for six years, but the show — and its larger-than-life characters — have barely left the public’s imagination.
Now Snooki, JWoww, Pauly D and the gang are back for Jersey Shore Family Vacation, set in a Miami mansion.
The cast, who are among the world’s most famous reality TV stars, have experienced vast fame and fortune and careers away from the programme but, they say, they owe their lives to Jersey Shore.
Speaking to Reuters in London, Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi, Paul ‘Pauly D’ DelVechhio and Jennifer ‘JWoww’ Farley discussed what they’d be doing if they weren’t famous, with answers including ‘porn’ and ‘jail’.
Rather poignantly, JWoww said, “Jersey Shore has saved our lives.”
Jersey Shore exploded onto MTV screens in 2009 and focused on the lives of eight Italian-Americans living in New Jersey, United States.
Famous for their promiscuous, drunken — and often violent — behaviour, the cast drew fans from all across the world. Breakout star Snooki was arrested for disorderly conduct while filming the show in 2010.
At the time, the then-governor of New Jersey Chris Christie said the cast and show gave a “negative” impression of New Jersey.
The show has seen many spinoffs — perhaps most notably Geordie Shore, set in Newcastle, which has just finished its 16th series. Snooki, Pauly D and JWoww were in London to promote the show — and made sure to meet with some of the cast of Geordie Shore.
