KUALA LUMPUR, April 10 — Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) has withdrawn its originating summons against the Registrar of Societies (RoS) in regard to the party’s registration.

High Court judge S. Nantha Balan in chambers granted the party’s application to withdraw, without costs, according to PPBM’s counsel Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla.

The lawyer told reporters that PPBM withdrew the suit as it had filed an application for leave for judicial review of RoS director general Surayati Ibrahim’s decision to deregister the party temporarily at the high court here on April 5.

He said the application had been fixed for hearing tomorrow (April 11) before justice Datuk Wira Kamaludin Md Said.

On Feb 22, PPBM through its secretary general Datuk Dr Shahruddin Md Salleh filed the suit naming RoS as defendant.

In its originating summons, PPBM which was set up on Sept 8, 2016, had sought a declaration to compel RoS to follow procedures, that it could not deregister the party under the Societies Act 1966.

The plaintiff was also seeking a declaration that RoS’ failure to reply three letters sent to it by the party was inconsistent with the Societies Act 1966.

The party had also sought to compel RoS to carry out an investigation on the party’s deregistration. — Bernama
