PETALING JAYA, Feb 22 — Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan has filed a defamation suit against PKR vice-president, Rafizi Ramli in the High Court today.
Malaysiakini reports that the suit was in reference to the alleged defamatory statements made by Rafizi against Abdul Rahman in organising Expo Negaraku 2017.
Abdul Rahman filed the suit on January 30 through Messrs Raja Riza and Associates and named Rafizi as the sole defendant.
The report further stated that in the case management hearing today, Justice Datuk Mohd Zaki Abdul Wahab fixed March 12 for Rafizi to file his defence and March 26 for Abdul Rahman to reply.
Mohd Zaki also set March 29 for the next case management.
Abdul Rahman was represented by Datuk M. Reza Hassan while Rafizi was represented by Abdul Halim Abdul Karim.
Based on the statement of claim, Abdul Rahman stated that on November 10, 2017 the defendant through his Facebook posting informed that a press conference will be held to expose the misappropriation of an Umno minister.
Subsequently on December 11, 2017 he held a press conference titled “Umno's Latest Scandal Involves Which Minister?" which took place at Rafizi's office in Sungai Besi, Abdul Rahman claimed.
Abdul Rahman also said that the press conference was broadcast live through Rafizi’s Facebook account, Rafizi Ramli @ rafiziramli.keadilan.
In the press conference, the defendant allegedly made slanderous and malicious references against Rahman Dahlan.
As a result of the defamation statement, the plaintiff claimed his reputation and dignity was affected.
Abdul Rahman is also demanding monetary damages, as well as an injunction so that the defendant through himself or a representative is prevented from publishing, issuing and printing the defamatory statements.
He is also demanding an apology from Rafizi.
Expo Negaraku 2017, which took place at Dataran Merdeka from November 15 to December 15 last year, was the subject of Rafizi's press conference on December 11, 2017.
Rafizi claimed that the expo organised by The Economic Planning Unit, which was headed by Abdul Rahman was tendered to Raslan Dahlan, whom he claimed was the elder brother of the former.
