KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 20 ― Malaysia’s ambassador to Indonesia will be meeting with Indonesia's Ministry of Manpower today over a potential ban on maids here, according to Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamid.

Speaking to reporters after the soft-launch of the International Exhibition on National Security (NATSEC) for Asia 2018, the Home Minister said Malaysia’s ambassador Datuk Seri Zahrain Mohamed Hashim will raise four key points.

“Zahrain will convey our interest and commitment in maintain close bilateral ties because we, Indonesia and Malaysia, need each other.

“He will also convey that this case was isolated and that we have never and will never protect or cover-up anyone responsible for the abuse,” he said adding that the 2016 Memorandum of Understanding between the two needed to be updated.

It was reported last week that Indonesia may soon reintroduce a moratorium on allowing its citizens to work in Malaysia as domestic workers, after the death of 21-year old Adelina Lisao earlier this month.
