Rohingya man with fake UNHCR card detained in Kuala Terengganu

KUALA TERENGGANU, Feb 15 — A 33-year-old Rohingya man was detained by the Road Transport Department (RTD) and the Immigration Department in the joint operation dubbed “Ops Khas Motosikal” in Jalan Kemajuan near here yesterday.

He was detained for not possessing a valid driving licence and for using fake United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) card.

“I got the card before I came to work in Gong Badak, Terengganu. I got it from a Rohingya friend I just met who arranged for the card in Kuala Lumpur, and I have not met him since then.

“I have had it for more than two years and did not know that it was fake,” he told reporters.

Also present during the operations was Terengganu RTD director Emang Anyie Abdul Rahman.

Commenting on the operations, Emang Anyie Abdul Rahman said it was simultaneously conducted in Kemaman, Dungun, Air Sejuk in Setiu as well as Jalan  Batu Buruk and Jalan Kemajuan in Kuala Terengganu.

“During the operation, we issued 119 summons and 205 notices mostly for not having a driving licence as well as a valid road tax. We also confiscated a car and seven motorcycles,” he said.

The operation which was mounted with the cooperation from Terengganu Religious Affairs Department and the National Anti-Drugs Agency also saw four men detained after being tested positive for drugs. — Bernama
