IPOH, Feb 14 — Cameron Highlands police have warned visitors to obey road rules, as traffic congestion is expected to spike during the coming Chinese New Year (CNY) festive period.

Police chief Deputy Superintendent Hasadid A. Hamid said more vehicles were expected to pass through the holiday destination on February 16 and 17.

He said areas like Kea Farm, Brinchang town and Tanah Rata would experience more congestion as they were tourist hotspots.

“Most of these areas are located near the main road through Cameron Highlands.

“Thus, we ask road users not to park their vehicles on the shoulder as this will cause more congestion,” he said in a statement today.

Hasadid advised motorists to obey the rules of the road, especially the speed limits, and not to cut ahead of traffic queues.

He said police will be carrying out total enforcement and there will be zero tolerance against those who commit the offences.

Hasadid also advised first time visitors to be mindful of traffic signs around Brinchang, especially the signs that indicated one-way roads.

“The roads have been turned into one-way routes to smoothen the traffic flow,” Hasadid said.

“Tourists or locals are not allowed to ride or drive their vehicles against the traffic flow as this will increase the risk of accidents.”

He noted that any holiday convoys, including motorcycle convoys, were also subject to the laws.

“No marshall services are allowed to escort vehicles or hold other vehicles up.”

“We ask road users to follow the rules, and reduce the congestion and accidents in Cameron Highlands this Chinese New Year.”
