China stops Malaysia from Badminton Asia Team Championships final

ALOR SETAR, Feb 10 — Malaysia’s joy from making the Thomas Cup did not last long as they failed to qualify for the Badminton Asia Team Championships final today.

The men’s team lost 3-1 to China in the last four at the Sultan Abdul Halim Stadium in Alor Star.

Malaysia rested Lee Chong Wei against China and promoted Lee Zii Jia was no match for China’s first singles Shi Yuqi, losing 21-18, 21-9.

Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong kept Malaysia in the match with a 21-18, 21-12 win over He Jiting-Tan Qiang but China regained lead through Qiao Bin who defeated Soong Joo Ven 21-17, 21-8.

Second pair Ong Ewe Sin-Teo Ee Yi were unable to stop China from marching into the final after they were beaten 21-15, 21-13.
