KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 10 — Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was admitted to a general ward last night over a chest infection following a bout of cough, the National Heart Institute (IJN) said in a statement today.
The 92-year-old Pakatan Harapan chairman had reportedly missed a political event in Bentong, Pahang yesterday.
“Dr Mahathir will be admitted for a few days to allow for treatment and observation. Visits only for close family members,” the hospital said.
The former prime minister has a history of heart complications and was most recently admitted to the IJN in 2016, also for a chest infection.
Dr Mahathir first suffered a heart attack in 1989 and underwent a bypass operation then.
He subsequently experienced several more cardiac arrests and received a second bypass in 2007.
