ALOR SETAR, Feb 9 ― Malaysian women’s team ended their campaign in the 2018 Badminton Asia Team Championships (BATC) after losing 0-3 to South Korea today.

In the quarter finals matches held at the Sultan Abdul Halim Stadium here, national first singles, Soniia Cheah was unable to lead the team after she went down 13-21, 10-21 to world number six Sung Jin Hyun

The scratch pair of Vivian Hoo-Tee Jing Yi also were a shade off their best as they tamely lost 10-21, 15-21 to Lee So Hee-Shin Seung Chan.

Malaysia’s last hope to keep the team in the hunt, Goh Jin Wei, however, failed to grab the point after she lost to Lee Jang Mi 21-17, 11-21, 13-21.

The 2018 BATC is the qualifying round for the Uber Cup finals which would be held in Bangkok, Thailand, in May this year.

The women’s shuttlers needed to complete their BATC campaign among the top four from 15 participating countries to book a final round spot in the Uber Cup where Thailand has qualified automatically as hosts. ― Bernama
