LONDON, Jan 13 — The rising Norwegian pop star behind recent tracks Don’t Kill My Vibe and Strangers has beat a shortlist of worthy contenders to win the BBC’s Sound of 2018.

Sigrid joins past winners including Adele, Sam Smith, Ellie Goulding and HAIM in taking the Sound Of title, which recognizes a rising star who has been tipped for success in the year ahead.

In response to her win, the 21-year-old tweeted, “often have a lot to say, but this time I’m just speechless. thank you so much to everyone who voted for me and my team, we’re all so proud right now.”

Sigrid released her first single, Sun, in Norway in 2013 and earned spots on international charts with her second single, 2017’s Don’t Kill My Vibe. Subsequent 2017 singles Plot Twist and Strangers earned her further notice internationally. She appeared on the soundtrack for last year’s Justice League performing a cover of Leonard Cohen’s Everybody Knows.

The singer was recently revealed as part of the line-up for the 2018 Coachella Festival. — AFP-Relaxnews
