KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 10 — Family members and acquaintances who followed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to Saudi Arabia this week paid for their own travel expenses, the Prime Minister’s Office clarified today.
The PMO explained that while Najib’s five-day work trip was to discuss bilateral issues, he had invited his mother and siblings and a few associates to join him so they could perform their umrah pilgrimage together.
“The brothers of the Prime Minister including some acquaintances followed him to the Holy Land on their own expense.
“Only Tun Rahah Mohammad Noah was with Datuk Seri Najib Razak on the flight to Saudi Arabia,” the PMO said in a statement, referring to the prime minister’s mother who is also the widow of the second prime minister, the late Tun Razak Hussein.
Also on the trip were Najib’s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and Minister in Prime Minister Department in charge of Islamic affairs Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom.
Najib will be in Saudi Arabia until January 12.
