KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 20 — Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar was appointed chairman of Prasarana Malaysia Bhd (Prasarana) because of his extensive experience in security, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said.
The Finance Minister said recruiting the former inspector-general of police would help bolster security in the public transportation agency.
“Besides the experience, quality of leadership and management experience he has, Khalid also has extensive knowledge in safety and security matters which will improve the security and safety aspects in the public transportation system,” Najib said in a parliamentary reply.
Prasarana is fully owned by the Finance Ministry and handles almost all of the major public transportation systems in Malaysia.
Najib was responding to a question from Kota Raja MP Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud who asked what were Khalid’s qualifications to be appointed to the position.
A day after Khalid’s official retirement from the police force, Najib announced that Khalid would be taking over the top post in Prasarana.
Najib said Khalid’s appointment as Prasarana chairman was to replace Tan Sri Ismail Adam who completed his term on August 31, 2017.
