KL shares lower at mid-day

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 14 — Bursa Malaysia turned lower at the end of the morning session today as the market succumbed to selling pressure especially in selected heavyweights led by Genting Bhd and PetGas.

At 12.30pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) stood at 1,735.97, down 1.52 points or 0.08 per cent, from yesterday's close of 1,737.49.

Earlier, the key index opened 5.78 points higher at 1,743.27.

Losers overwhelmed gainers 449 to 298 with 398 counters unchanged, 695 untraded and 20 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.44 billion shares worth RM911.96 million.

Among heavyweights, Genting Bhd fell 18 sen to RM9.17, PetGas was 30 sen lower at RM17.14, YTL lost two sen to RM1.26, TM slid nine sen to RM6.03 and IOI Corp gave up five sen to RM4.37.

Meanwhile, in a note today, Hong Leong Investment Bank Research said the local market sentiments might remain negative following the selldown of lower liners and small capitalisation stocks yesterday on selected ACE market stocks.

“Also, volatility in the market may heighten in the midst of the reporting season month,” it said.

The research house said the downside of the KLCI could extend further after the key index had breached the 1,740 level.

Among actives, Sumatec added 1.5 sen to 6.5 sen, Trive Property and its warrant edged up half-a-sen each to 10 sen and 3.5 sen respectively, Berjaya Corporation was two sen better at 39 sen while DGSB and PUC eased half-a-sen each to 8.5 sen and 21.5 sen, respectively.

For the losers, PMB Technology fell 41 sen to RM4.04, Vitrox erased 22 sen to RM5.63, Globetronics and Aji trimmed 16 sen each to RM6.22 and RM18.76, respectively, and Padini was 13 sen lower at RM5.24.

The FBM Emas Index was up 0.27 of-a-point to 12,557.39, the FBMT 100 Index gained 0.48 of-a-point to 12,192.78, the FBM Emas Shariah Index advanced 0.58 of-a-point to 13,013.47 and the FBM 70 climbed 41.90 points to 15,583.94.

The FBM Ace fell 35.33 points to 6,751.65.

Sectorwise, the Industrial Index lost 3.23 points to 3,188.67, the Plantation Index was 26.86 points easier at 7,928.80 while the Finance Index went up 35.87 points to 16,216.17. — Bernama
