Bursa ends marginally lower at midday

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 10 — Bursa Malaysia was marginally lower at the end of the morning session today on profit-taking in selected blue-chips as well as lower-liners, dealers said.

At 12.30pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 0.06 of-a-point lower at 1,746.75 from yesterday’s close of 1,746.81.

The index opened 0.28 point easier at 1,746.53 and moved between 1,743.06 and 1,747.53 during the morning session.

Losers outpaced gainers by 412 to 300 with 396 counters unchanged, 716 untraded and 20 others suspended. 

Turnover stood at 1.38 billion shares worth RM866.86 million.

Of the trade and services-related heavyweights, group counters, namely Genting and Genting Malaysia led the losers by falling eight sen and six sen each to RM9.40 and RM5.09, respectively, followed by Axiata, which lost four sen to RM5.40, MISC eased five sen to RM7.40 and Westports fell three sen to RM3.71.

A dealer said given the global uncertainties, such as the timing of US tax reforms and political tension between Saudi Arabia and Iran, the local market was expected to see range-bound trading.

He said the FBM KLCI was expected to hover at the immediate resistance of 1,746.0 points until a clearer market direction emerged.

“The investors are cashing in on their stocks after the index recorded gains in the previous sessions and the FBM KLCI fundamentals are still intact, even though it marginally fell compared to other regional peers which register modest gains,” he added.

Of the heavyweights, Maybank was four sen higher at RM9.20, Tenaga and Sime Darby added two sen each to RM14.92 and RM9.08, respectively and Petronas Chemicals gained five sen to RM7.45.

Public Bank was flat at RM20.46.

Among the active counters, Malayan United Industries rose two sen to 26.5 sen, Sumatec was flat at five sen, Key Alliance fell one sen to 21 sen and Key Asic was three sen higher at 27.5 sen.

The FBM Emas Index was up 6.77 points to 12,605.23 and the FBMT100 Index rose 7.13 points to 12,243.71.

The FBM 70 improved 36.95 points to 15,557.25, FBM Emas Shariah Index was 14.13 points higher to 13,050.23, but the FBM Ace decreased 14.48 points to 6,827.68.

On a sectoral basis, the Industrial Index was up 5.07 points to 3,212.17, Finance Index was 16.01 points firmer at 16,256.28, and the Plantation Index rose 2.09 points to 8,025.88. — Bernama
