LOS ANGELES, June 20 — Kim Kardashian is launching KKW Beauty tomorrow, and she’s decided to get one thing out of the way.Last week, the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star was hit by accusations of “wearing blackface” after she shared the first promo image for her beauty line on social media.
Kardashian whose children with Kanye West are biracial spoke to The New York Times about the controversy yesterday.
She said that her appearance wasn’t intentional and that she was really tan when the pictures were taken.
“I would obviously never want to offend anyone,” Kardashian was quoted as saying.
“I used an amazing photographer and a team of people. I was really tan when we shot the images, and it might be that the contrast was off.”
It is understood that Kardashian worked with photographer Ben Hasset and makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic for the shoot.
She added that the pictures had been shared with “many people, to many in the business. No one brought that to our attention. No one mentioned it.”
Kardashian was also keen to stress that she has “the utmost respect for why people might feel the way they did.”
As a result, changes have been made to the photos.
“We saw the problem, and we adapted and changed right away,” the reality star continued. “Definitely I have learned from it.”
KKW Beauty launches tomorrow, with one product: The Crème Contour and Highlight Kit, which includes a contour stick, a highlighter stick and a brush/sponge, all with dual ends. It will be sold exclusively on her website — in four shades — for US$48 (RM205) each.
