SUBANG, June 18 — The cooperation and support shown by a community of different backgrounds in raising funds to renovate the Kajang Tamil School (SJKT), truly highlights the 1Malaysia concept, said MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam.
He said the community and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) came together with noble intentions of promoting the importance of providing good education.
“They also recognised that education is the tool via which the process of social transformation and community transformation can be achieved. This truly shows what Malaysians are.
“This is also a manifestation of the (1Malaysia) concept in that people from different backgrounds and race have responded to the need to further develop a Tamil school. For that, I thank you all,” he said in his speech at the SJKT Kajang Building Renovation Fund Raising Dinner here tonight.
Dr Subramaniam, who is also the Minister of Health, has also pledged RM50,000 for the fund while MIC Vice President cum Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Datuk M. Saravanan pledged RM20,000.
Organised by Kajang Tamil School Board of Governors, the fundraising dinner has so far raised RM100,000 and is on track to meet the overall target of raising RM200,000 for the school renovation. — Bernama
