GEORGE TOWN, May 17 — DAP’s Lim Guan Eng today defended Selangor Speaker Hannah Yeoh’s remarks about her faith in a book, saying she was not preaching to Muslims.
“Since when is a non-Muslim not allowed to talk about her own faith?” he asked.
He said DAP will stand by the Subang Jaya assemblyman as she did no wrong by talking about her own faith.
He then questioned calls for her to be prosecuted, in response to an essay by lecturer, Kamarul Zaman Yusoff titled Hannah Yeoh contoh hipokrasi terbesar DAP (Hannah Yeoh is the biggest hypocrite in DAP).
The Universiti Utara Malaysia senior lecturer said Yeoh extolled the benefits of Christianity in her book titled Becoming Hannah: A Personal Journey, and mixed it with politics.
This led to Yeoh lodging a police report against Kamarul for defamation.
Today, Kamarul lodged a police report against Yeoh, claiming that Yeoh’s book is “trying to persuade and incite non-Christians, including Muslims, to convert to Christianity”.
He claimed Yeoh had committed an offence by trying to influence or incite Muslims to convert to another religion as provided under Section 4(1)(a) of the Enactment of Controls and Sanctions (Expansion of non-Islamic Religions) of Selangor 1988.
