KL shares mixed at mid-day break

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 2 — Bursa Malaysia ended the morning session mixed, in range bound trading, with selling in trade and services counters erasing earlier gains, dealers said.

At lunch break, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 1.47 points higher at 1,627.91 from yesterday's close of 1,626.44.

The index opened 1.07 points higher at 1,627.51 and moved between 1,626.38 and 1,632.23 during the morning session.

However, on the broader market, losers led gainers 296 to 271 with 312 counters unchanged, 812 untraded and 20 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 666.23 million shares worth RM622.42 million.

Among losers included MISC, which shed 12 sen to RM7.26, Genting Malaysia slipped seven sen to RM4.68, IHH Healthcare reduced three sen to RM6.39 and British American Tobacco fell 58 sen to RM43.92.

A dealer said, the local bourse was tracking regional peers which were broadly lower, taking the cue from the overnight losses on Wall Street, as well as, the pause in the US dollar's strength.

"The mode remained cautious, as investors awaited the release of US job data later today, for further clue on the market's direction," added the dealer.

Japan's Nikkei 225 shed 0.98 per cent to 18,331.87, Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell 1.16 per cent to 22,612.60, South Korea's Kospi was down 0.80 per cent at 1,967.80 and Singapore's Straits Times slipped 0.23 per cent to 2,921.96.

Of heavyweights, Maybank added four sen to RM7.83, TNB gained six sen at RM14.04, Petronas Chemicals improved three sen to RM6.89, Sime Darby rose eight sen to RM8.18 while Public Bank lost two sen to RM19.62.

Actives, Hibiscus Petroleum and KNM Group improved half-a-sen each to 30 sen and 34 sen, respectively, Bumi Armada added one sen to 55.5 sen while Wintoni and Green Packet were flat at five sen and 27 sen, respectively.

The FBM Emas Index improved 1.03 points to 11,392.06 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index rose 12.17 points to 11,929.68.

The FBMT100 Index eased 0.58 of a point to 11,123.81, the FBM Ace slipped 16.26 points to 4,785.55 and the FBM 70 fell 39.46 points to 13,067.67.

Sectorwise, the Finance Index improved 0.06 of a point to 14,259.80, the Industrial Index added 0.56 of a point to 3,074.70 and the Plantation Index rose 22.24 points to 7,700.46. — Bernama
