KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 — The Wildlife Crime Unit (WCU) seized 1,070 tortoises and turtles of various species in two separate raids in Petaling Jaya and the federal capital, yesterday.
Peninsular Malaysia Wildlife and National Parks Department (PERHILITAN) director-general Datuk Abd Rasid Samsudin said the two raids involved the arrest of four Indian nationals for keeping the wild animals without valid documents.
“In the first raid at 7pm yesterday, WCU raided a house in Petaling Jaya and found 1,011 star tortoises and 23 Indian roofed turtles kept by two men.
“The second raid conducted at a budget hotel in the federal capital at 1am, found two men in possession of 36 black pond turtles in four bags without valid documents,” he said in a statement today.
He added all suspects nabbed were brought to the police station for remand. — Bernama
