Cops probing 84 cases of alleged offences during Sarawak polls

KUALA LUMPUR, May 25 — The police have opened 84 investigation papers on various offences allegedly committed during the course of the recently concluded Sarawak state elections, the Home Ministry said today.

In a parliamentary written reply in response to Ahmad Marzuk Shaary (PAS-Bachok), the ministry said that of the 84, 47 were being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief and causing damage.

Marzuk had asked for the status of investigations and the cost incurred to monitor social media postings during the polls.

According to the ministry, however, no cost was involved in the monitoring of social media posts.

“Social media monitoring did not incur any additional cost because the work is done by an existing police unit, the Police Cyber Investigation Response Centre (PCIRC),” it said.
