KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 18 — 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) today denied rumours circulating online that the state-owned investment firm had formed an airline company.

The firm reaffirmed that it was currently undergoing a debt rationalisation plan and was not engaged in any new venture since February this year.

“1MDB refers to a fake Wikipedia entry and fake information circulating on social media regarding the setup and operations of a so-called ‘1MDB Airlines Berhad’.

“We confirm that there is no such company owned or operated by 1MDB,” it said in a statement today.

It urged the public to disregard the claim as well as related communications that did not originate directly from the firm.

The Wikipedia entry for a purported “1MDB Airlines” is still viewable on the online encyclopaedia, but has been marked for deletion.

The entry claims that the airline was established this year and will operate a full-fare service to compete with Malaysia Airline Bhd, AirAsia, and other regional carriers.
