KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 22 — Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud secured today the last seat in the 15-member DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) central committee for the next three years, even though she received fewer votes than fellow Malay competitor Muhammad Shakir Ameer Mohideen.

The political secretary to DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang received 184 votes in the wing’s election today, but edged out her rival who scored 10 more votes by dint of the party’s quota for women, news portal Malaysiakini reported.

According to Malaysiakini, DAPSY has set aside five seats for women representatives to be in the wing’s central committee and Dyana Sofya was included despite ranking 18th according to the tally sheet.

The other four women who made the cut are: Jenny Choy Tsi Jen (245 votes), Cherrie Ong Mun Yin (218), Leong Yu Man (212) and Tan Swee Boon (236).

The federal opposition party introduced the 30 per cent quota into its executive ranks in a bid to boost both the numbers of female members in the decades-old party and women leaders in the country, party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said in statement November last year.

Wong Kah Woh, who is Canning assemblyman, is the new DAPSY chief, beating out Damansara Jaya state lawmaker Yeo Bee Yin by a 93-vote margin.

Kah Woh’s elected deputy is Wong King Wei, who trumped his challenger Tan Hong Pin by 89 votes.

The twin DAPSY vice-chairman posts went to Arul Kumar Jambunathan and Liow Cai Tung who won them uncontested, while the wing’s secretary is Lee Chee Kwan who beat Ketari representative Lee Chin Chen by 47 votes.

The remaining 10 members of the DAPSY central committee are: Henry Shim Chee On (315 votes), Chiong Yoke Kong (296), Howard Lee Chuan How (255), Alan Ling Sie Kiong (253), Patrick Hoo Keh Yew (243), Edmund Teoh Kheng Yaik (236), V Krishna Murthy Naidu (208), Foo Yu Keong (207), Mohd Firdaus Babh (203) and Ee Chin Li (196).

* A previous version of this article erroneously stated Ee Chin Li as one of the four women voted into DAPSY central committee. The article has since been corrected.
