SINGAPORE, Feb 16 — British national Choi Chi Man, who was on board the ill-fated AirAsia QZ8501 flight that crashed on December 28, has been identified by the Indonesian authorities, according to a statement issued by the United Kingdom’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

“We can confirm the identification of the British victim of AirAsia flight QZ8501, Choi Chi Man. Our thoughts are with his family and we continue to provide them with support at this difficult time,” the agency was quoted as saying in a BBC report dated February 14.

News of Choi’s identification was also carried in a separate ANTARA News article dated February 11. Head of East Java Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team Budiyono confirmed the identification of two British nationals — Choi and Natalina Wuntarjo — as well as Anna Widyawati from Surabaya.

Choi was identified using primary data such as dental records, while secondary data, including height, age, sex and private belongings such as ID and credit cards, also aided the process, according to ANTARA.

Hull-born Choi, 48, was the managing director at an energy company. He was travelling with his two-year-old Singaporean daughter Zoe from Surabaya, Indonesia, to Singapore on December 28 when the plane crashed in the Java Sea. The girl has yet to be found. — Today
