KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 15 — TNG Digital Sdn Bhd, the guys behind the Touch ‘n Go card, has partnered up with Alipay and Bank Negara has given them the go-ahead.

Touch ‘n Go will be working exclusively with Alipay to buff up their services but Alipay is free to approach any bank to contribute to their new payment ecosystem.

The arrangement has TNG Digital as the main shareholder in the partnership, with their Touch n’ Go platform having about 10 million active users in Malaysia who use the cards to not just pay for tolls or public transport, but also to make purchases at certain stores.

E-wallets are still a relatively new thing in Malaysia, but already there are services available such as FavePay, Boost and vCash, whereas, in China, Alipay is pretty commonly used as one of the biggest available services in the country.

Now that we’ll finally be able to upload our Touch ‘n Go cards from the web, hopefully, they won’t charge us that extra 50 sen for reloads like they do now. — SoyaCincau
