PARIS, May 11 — Garmin revealed on Tuesday that its latest smartwatch, the Quatix 5, is designed for those who like to take their sports out on the water.

The marine GPS smartwatch has been created specifically for those who prefer life on the water, taking features from Garmin’s popular fenix 5 multi-sport watch series and combining them with boating, fishing, cruising and sailing capabilities.

For sailing fans, it provides comprehensive boat connectivity with compatible Garmin chartplotters and other marine electronics to offer autopilot control, remote waypoint marking, and data streaming, including speed, depth, temperature and wind.

Those into sail racing can also benefit from features such as a race countdown timer, distance to start line, and time to burn.

For fishermen there is a competition timer and a log to keep a track of that day’s catch, and the Quatix 5 also gives up-to-date tide data for your area, giving you access to the data for seven days.

It also comes with an anchor alarm to warn users of drift and an anchor rode calculator that tells the user the proper length of anchor line to put out.

As it’s going to be used in wetter conditions than Garmin’s other smartwatches, the Quatix 5 has been designed with water in mind and can be used up to 100 meters.

It has also been built to withstand a more rugged, harsher marine environment, and for those out on the water it has an easily visible color display so data can be read even in bright conditions.

It still works on land however, tracking activities such as running, hiking, biking, swimming, rowing, paddle boarding, and more, and offers Garmin Elevate wrist heart rate technology. It also allows users to receive their call, text and email notifications, and comes with a range of new QuickFit bands in metal, leather or silicon you can transition not only from sea to land but also gym to office.

The Quatix 5 is set to launch in June with two versions available: the Quatix 5 priced at US$599.99 (RM2,608.16) and the Wi-Fi-enabled Quatix 5 Sapphire with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal lens priced at US$849.99. — AFP-Relaxnews
