SEPANG, April 10 — Despite being jeopardised by a penalty in the women’s keirin second round at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, track cycling queen Fatehah Mustapha does not want the incident to keep haunting her.
“I will continue with my training and there are many more areas I need to improve. Especially from what I learned in the Commonwealth Games and I hope to step up and move on.
“I do not know why the stroke of bad luck happened again in the Commonwealth... getting relegated. I still cannot accept (decision of officer) as I knew I did not make the mistake. I should have been given a warning first but they just relegate me.
“For me, this is something unfair as it is not easy to get into the final. I want to concentrate on that (winning a medal) but it was not to be and everything just ended like that,” said Fatehah.
In the women’s keirin event on Sunday at the Anna Meares Velodrome, Fatehah won three heats in the first round to booked a berth in the second round.
She went on to be in the top three in the second heat of the second round when she was relegated following a complaint by a Canadian rider who alleged Fatehah was obstructing her.
However, the cyclist from Terengganu, however, denied she has reached the peak of her cycling career.
“Even though there was no medal from the Commonwealth Games, I am still maintaining my time. I was confident of delivering a medal to Malaysia if the incident had not occurred,” she said.
According to her, she wanted to take a good rest to get over the incident and focused on training for the Asian Games in August. — Bernama
