Doe scored in the 48th and 70th (penalty) minutes while Brazilian import Patrick Cruz started the rout in the 6th minute. Rufino Segovia scored for the Red Giants from the spot in the 38th minute.

Doe played for Selangor last year but managed only eight goals. He was brought in after a stellar 15 goals in 19 games for Felda United the year before. He had a run-in with the law in off-field troubles with Selangor, where he was hauled up for owning a cloned car which kept him out of the first team for a spell and fined RM6,000. That was a big distraction until he migrated to Pahang.

“We needed a win today and I’m glad we got that,” said the 32-year-old. “First thing is to make sure we win a cup and I want to be a top scorer this year.”

This will be Doe’s seventh year in Malaysia: Six years in the MSL and one in the Malaysian Premier League (MPL). He started out in 2012 with Terengganu where he shared the Golden Boot with Jean Emmanuel-Effa Owona who played for Negri Sembilan with 15 goals apiece. He then moved to Selangor and Kelantan in subsequent years before winning top scorer award again with 17 goals, this time in the MPL with Negri Sembilan in 2015.

The lone striker is playing his first two matches of the season and his veritable link-up with Brazilian import Patrick Cruz was catalyst for both goals in the second half for Pahang’s second win.

“You see today, there were moments ... we had good chemistry. We can only get better.” Red Giants coach P. Maniam substituted Spaniard Alfonso de la Cruz in the 30th minute but Pahang’s high pressure game affected Selangor who now have two losses in-a-row and seven goals conceded.

Selangor are in sixth place on six points, three behind leaders JDT. They play Ministry of Finance (MOF) in the FA Cup in March 3.

In matches elsewhere, defending league champions JDT beat Melaka 3-0 through goals from Luciano Figuorea (12th min), Jorge Idaz Pereyra (21st) and Natxo Insa (34th) while Perak lost 3-2 to Kelantan. Canadian Hyun Dong scored a hattrick for Kelantan (68, 77, 88 mins) while Perak’s scorers were Norhakim Hassan (22nd) and Wander Luiz (69th).
