IPOH, Jan 28 — Perak’s football team can be Malaysia’s Leicester City that beat the odds and won the English Premier League a few years ago despite the long odds, mentri besar Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir said last night.

Zambry launched the team’s football kit for the new season of Malaysian Super League (MSL) which will kick off next week, at Bulatan Aman Jaya, Meru here which was attended by thousands of loyal fans.

“When Leicester won the English Premier League back in 2015, they weren’t a title contender, yet they beat all the odds to be crowned as the champions.

“Perak could do the same if we show the same fighting spirit, determination to win, discipline and never give up attitude,” he said.

Perak maintained its iconic yellow home kit, but decided to go with an all-red away kit instead of the usual white.

It has kept its main kit sponsor, sports retailer Al-Ikhsan for the fourth consecutive season.

Zambry also said he is confident Perak could bring back the glory days by winning some trophies this season.

“I have watched a few pre-season friendly and all the players, including the foreigners, locals and youth had shown a quality performance.

“With the potential shown by the players, I believe we could not only target to win one trophy, but two,” he added.

The crowd who turn up for the event did not go empty handed as footballs and 100 goodies such as t-shirts, socks and shorts were given to the fans by the players.

Also present for the event was Perak president Abdul Puhat Mat Nayan, team manager Ahmad Shahrul Azhar Sofian, and Perak vice-president Datuk G. Irudianathan.

Perak will open their MSL campaign against Pahang at Kuantan’s Darul Makmur Stadium on February 4.
