PETALING JAYA, July 6 — Kelantan lost their seventh coach in four years after Azraai Khor Abdullah quit yesterday following a 3-0 defeat to LionsXII on Saturday.

Since B. Sathiananthan left in January 2011 after being in charge for two years, M. Karathu, Peter Butler, Bojan Hodak, Steve Darby and George Boateng all lasted less than two years.

“I tendered my resignation after returning from Singapore. I was asked to help by the president Tan Sri Annuar Musa and took the team to the FA Cup final.

“But my hands were tied in terms of managing the team.

“As a professional, when you can’t manage the team properly there is no point staying. The time is right for me to leave,” explained Azraai, who said the players were surprised by his decision.

“I had already made up my mind and wanted to part like a gentleman.

“I think they can understand that. I gave my best throughout my short stint and my policy has always been to be an honest worker. I have done that,” added Azraai, who will celebrate Aidilfitri with his family before planning his next move.

Kelantan’s form has been indifferent in the league and the defeat to Lions was their seventh of the season. They are 10th in the league.

Prior to Azraai, Boateng helmed the team for almost a year before being replaced in March.
