SINGAPORE, June 9 — A freak eye injury did not dampen the spirit of National shooter Muslifah Zulkifli to help her team mates win a silver medal in the women's 50m Rifle Prone at the National Shooting Centre, here today.

Muslifah teamed up with Nur Ayuni Farhana Abdul Halim and Nur Suryani Mohammed Taibi to gun down 1,839 points for the silver behind Thailand's trio who amassed 1,869.3 points for the gold while Singapore shooters took the bronze medal with 1,829 points.

All three shooters also qualified for the individual final.

Muslifah suffered blurred vision in her right eye while the competition was going on when oil from her rifle splashed into her eyes.

"While I was shooting in the final phase of the competition, I encountered problems with my vision following the oil splash with just five minutes remaining. I quickly washed my eyes but could not score well.

"I hope my blurred vision will improve so that I can put up a better performance tomorrow," said Muslifah after receiving treatment at the Singapore National University Hospital.

Meanwhile, the men's Skeet team comprising Gan Kong Leong, Amran Risman and Teh Chee Fei shot 308 'birds' to win a bronze medal behind Thailand (342) and Singapore (338). — AFP
