JOHOR BARU, May 2 — Johor Darul Ta’zim’s (JDT) new coach Mario Gomez will also be taking charge of revamping the teams under its stable, which are JDT II to JDT V.

FA of Johor (PBNJ) president, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim said the expertise and experience the former coach of Valencia and Inter Milan has was very much needed for the long term development of JDT players as well as local coaches in the state.

He said Gomez would not only be in charge of coaching but also do a revamp of the JDT II to JDT V teams as these team were not faring very well of late.

“The future of the club is youth development. That is what Mario (Gomez) wants and I will give him full authority to do the revamp,” he told a media briefing at the Tan Sri Hassan Yunos Stadium, Larkin, here today.

The Tunku Mahkota Johor added that the main focus of JDT now was further developing football programmes in the state and not just going after points.

With Raul Marcos Longhi and Ismail Ibrahim as his assistant coaches, the Argentinian is tasked with ensuring that football development in Johor proceeds smoothly.

“Gomez’s focus will not only be making winners out JDT but also the other teams. Out players must have the winning mentality. We cannot have losers,” he said.

Meanwhile, Gomez, 58, said rapport between the coaches and players needs to be raised further so that changes could be done smoothly. — Bernama
