PETALIING JAYA, June 2 ― It is that time of the year again.

A time where you can trade your expensive shoes for a cheaper pair, a weekend where you can take some time off to get lost in music, and a time where you might finally want to put that dusty rain coat in a closet to good use.

No, it is not about a weekend off camping with no internet connection and telephone line.

We are talking about Toyota Good Vibes Festival 2018, back for the sixth year running.

Since its debut in 2013, the homegrown music and lifestyle festival has hosted international acts and showcased some of Malaysia’s best acts.

The Smashing Pumpkins, Dua Lipa, The 1975, The Kooks and Mark Ronson are just a few big names to have been part of the festival.

Just like last year, it should be a chilly time up at The Ranch in Gohtong Raya, Genting Highlands.

There are a lot of reasons to not miss out on the festival, but we are highlighting those most important to us.

#1 Support your local act

Every year, the weekend festival has been showcasing Malaysia’s local music scene on a huge scale.

Axel Groove, Blastique, Twinkies and Dangerdisko are a few local acts who have graced the GVF stage.

For this year’s edition, the organiser is aiming to have more than 20 Malaysian acts over two days.

Roshan, DJ Vin, Lionel Rizki, Dj Nesh, Emir Hermono are a few acts to lookout for.

Meanwhike, Altimet & The Kawan Band and Kyoto Protocol will be there to showcase Malaysia’s talents to the world.

#2 Treat it like a holiday

Genting Highlands as we all know is a cosy place for a quick getaway, especially for those from the Klang Valley.

Since it is a two-day event, why don’t you call it a holiday or getaway?

The energy felt at the festival is a different one.

It is not a rave or a concert but an event where strangers meet for some good music, food, fun, games and of course, shopping.

In general, it is a chill affair and this year’s festival will pull in more fun, activities and games.

Trust us, it was more than just the music that got us drooling when the festival was confirmed.

There was even a proposal on stage at last year’s edition. If you’re keen on doing the same, why not proposed on stage like a champ?

#3 Good lord, it is Lorde!

This is probably the main reason you would want to take your time off the weekend of July 21 and 22.

Lorde is no stranger with millions of fans worldwide and the talented artiste is only 21 years old.

Hailing from New Zealand, the pop sensation was announced as the headline act and this will be her first show in Malaysia.

Her album Melodrama last year — consisting of hits Team and Green Light — earned a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year and the sing-along vibes of her other tracks means it will be a fun affair when she goes on stage.

#4 Diversity guaranteed

When diversity is mentioned, there are many aspects to look at.

This festival covers most areas ― from the people, music to the balance of activities throughout the event.

Previous editions had families in attendance and we are sure this year will not be any different.

Joining in all the activities is a must — from slides to drinking games, there is always something to do if the music starts to get you a little restless.

Last year’s edition drew 13,000 people — and most are expected to make the trip to Genting again in July.
