LOS ANGELES, May 22 — Warner Bros has released the first trailer for Mowgli, Andy Serkis’ dark and gritty adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book.

The film boasts an all-star cast that includes Serkis as Baloo the bear, Rohan Chand as Mowgli, Christian Bale as Bagheera the panther, Benedict Cumberbatch as Shere Khan the tiger, Cate Blanchett as Kaa the snake, Naomie Harris as Nisha the female wolf, Jack Reynor as Brother Wolf, Eddie Marsan as Vihaan, Tom Hollander as Tabaqui, and Peter Mullan as Akela.

Matthew Rhys and Freida Pinto will also be joining the cast.

The synopsis of the film reads: “Blending live action and performance capture, the story follows the upbringing of the human child Mowgli (Chand) raised by a wolf pack in the jungles of India. As he learns the often-harsh rules of the jungle, under the tutelage of a bear named Baloo (Serkis) and a panther named Bagheera (Bale), Mowgli becomes accepted by the animals of the jungle as one of their own. All but one: the fearsome tiger Shere Khan (Cumberbatch). But there may be greater dangers lurking in the jungle, as Mowgli comes face to face with his human origins. The other story’s central animal characters are: Kaa, the snake (Blanchett); the leader of the wolf pack, Akela (Mullan); the scavenging hyena, Tabaqui (Hollander); Nisha, the female wolf (Harris), who adopts the baby Mowgli as one of her cubs; Nisha’s mate, Vihaan (Marsan); and Mowgli’s Brother Wolf (Reynor).”
